Dr. Lassen expanding hours to see more patients at Promise CHC

SIOUX CENTER Dr. Del Lassen is happy that he will be able to see more patients as a family practice physician at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux Center starting Feb. 1 when he expands his hours.

Dr. Lassen, who also serves as Promises medical director, will continue to take appointments on Wednesdays and Thursdays as he traditionally has. In addition, he will alternate providing services on either a Monday or Friday every week.

Dr. Del Lassen, family practice physician and medical
director at Promise Community Health Center in Sioux
Center, will expand his hours starting Feb. 1. That
will allow him to see more patients every week.
I love working at Promise because of our terrific patients and competent staff, he said. Its a truly joyful place to work.

Nancy Dykstra, executive director for Promise, said Dr. Lassens increased hours will enhance same-day availability for patients and ensure urgent care visits are provided Monday-Friday.

This means Promise can see more patients with more flexible scheduling options, she said. We are looking forward to being able to better accommodate patients who need to be seen on Mondays and Fridays.

Dr. Lassen earned his bachelor of science degree at the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1974 and his doctor of medicine degree at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in 1977. He completed his family medicine residency training at Siouxland Medical Education Foundation in Sioux City in 1980.

For the better part of four decades, Dr. Lassen has delivered health care as a family practice physician in northwest Iowa and as a faculty member for medical residency programs. His career service includes caring for patients as a doctor at Orange City Medical Clinic, 1980-85, and Sioux Center Medical Clinic, 1990-93. He served on the faculty of Charleston Family Medicine Residency in Charleston, SC, 1985-86, Broadlawns Family Medicine Residency in Des Moines, 1986-90, and Siouxland Medical Education Foundation in Sioux City, 1993-2011. In 2011, he began caring for patients at Sioux City Veterans Administration Clinic.

He assumed his part-time role as Promises medical director in April 2010.

At the end of January, Dr. Lassen will officially retire from the VA clinic, where he saw patients on Mondays and Tuesdays, freeing up the opportunity to expand his hours at Promise.

This is satisfying, Lassen said about his service at Promise. Its satisfying because of the combination of a patient population that is fun to deal with and appreciative of what you do and the people here being a very pleasant bunch to work with. You see a full spectrum of age groups here with patients. You see the full spectrum of problems. Its a very cooperative attitude amongst everybody who is involved in the organization. They are unified in their goals.

Dykstra said Dr. Lassen has had a big impact on Promise and the greater community.

Dr. Lassens service to Promise has meant that our medical and health services are built on quality, integrity and caring. Dr. Lassen is an experienced, caring, competent family practice physician, she said. Not only did he practice family medicine in Sioux Center, he raised his family here all of his children attended school here; all have gone on to college and success professional careers.

Dr. Lassens wife, Belinda, also serves as a certified nurse midwife at Promise.

They have touched the lives of countless families, Dykstra said.
